Group/Centre-based Activities

It is essential for a person’s mental well-being to participate in community activities. Studies have proven that group/centre activities can better the physical and emotional condition of participants. Heartland Support Services looks to promote social engagement by providing community, social and recreational activities. These group and centre-based activities enable participants to build and establish meaningful relationships with their peers.

We understand the challenges that people with a disability face day in and day out and that is why at Heartland Support Services our flexibility will enable us to meet the participant’s needs and demands. We ensure that our support workers understand where you come from, your needs, goals and your comfort level to be able to provide you with the best possible services.

Group activities may include:

  • Arts and craft
  • Cooking
  • Exercise
  • Activities
  • Yoga
  • Sports
  • Sensory and motor-based
  • Pool table

We will support you to learn or try something new, or simply do the things that will help you live your life.

Community classes and programs allow participants of all ages to build social skills, confidence and creativity so that anyone, no matter what skills and abilities, can participate and join in the fun.

Group activities are aimed at developing cognitive, social and physical skills in the participant so they can:

  • Develop friendships
  • Increase knowledge of their community and enjoy the opportunities that are available
  • Foster new interests and skills
  • Enjoy a sense of belonging and increase their self-esteem
  • Improve life skills
  • Live independently
